Suzanne Lopez Allicock

Suzanne has extensive experience in employment, labour, and human rights law. She is known and regarded for her thoughtful and empathetic engagement of client matters, meticulous attention to detail, and “real-life”, strategic problem-solving. Suzanne values teamwork and transparency, and aims for excellence in all that she does.

After graduating with Distinction from the University of Toronto with a BA in History (1989) and earning her LLB from Osgoode Hall Law School (1992), where she was awarded the top prize in labour law on graduation, Suzanne was called to the Bar in Ontario in 1994 and began her legal career at one of Toronto’s most esteemed union-side labour and employment law firms. There, she practiced labour, human rights, and employment law and appeared regularly before arbitration tribunals, disciplinary tribunals, and the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario. Her work included drafting facta for the Divisional Court and Court of Appeal in support of the judicial review of grievance arbitration and pay equity awards. She also conducted research, wrote and spoke regularly on issues of systemic discrimination, harassment remedies, and employment equity.

In 1997, Suzanne expanded the scope of her practice with her call to the Bar in Jamaica, which granted her the ability to practice law in Jamaica and 14 other English-speaking Caribbean countries. From 1997 to 2002, she practiced intellectual property and employment law at Jamaica’s oldest and most respected corporate/commercial firm. Suzanne took a vocational break from 2002 to 2020 to support her husband’s foreign service career and homeschool their two children, while living in Jamaica, the United States, and Japan, and traveling extensively.

In 2020, Suzanne resumed her career as a sole practitioner, focusing on employment, commercial and business law, primarily advising companies.

Outside of her legal work, Suzanne enjoys exploring the worlds of food, art, and theatre and finds great joy in traveling to new places, meeting new people, and embracing new experiences. Suzanne is passionate about running, hiking, and equestrian sports, and is actively involved in her church community.

Suzanne represents both employers and employees. She is a fair-minded, relationship driven workplace lawyer who aims to help create and foster harmonious working environments to enable businesses, and the people who work in them, to flourish.
